How are these two characters the same person?
This piece of Dermot Power art, dated 9/9/99, is what eventually became Asajj Ventress as we know her today:
But very few ideas are approved and finalized on the first draft. So here's an earlier take on the idea, where the evil Sith lady who would have been the villain of Episode II was a Twi'lek:
Here she is as a different alien (who, with a gender swap, a shift of skintone, and a change of allegience, eventually became Kit Fisto!):
The hood from that idea carried over into the next Twi'lek design, which is where we finally began to see some more of the ornate pieces Asajj would wear:
And that leads us directly into this piece, which was the inspiration for Luminara Unduli:
It's not hard to see the evolution when the original artist has kept such detailed records.
